Scrabble it up

whole⋅some   [hohl-suhm]
–adjective
1. conducive to moral or general well-being; salutary; beneficial: wholesome recreation; wholesome environment.
General well-being? Beneficial? not when we play...

I can consistently kick Dan's trash in Uno. For some reason Saturday he started with a winning streak. But I soon fixed that. Even Dan will admit that I kick his trash in Uno. It's good times.
However, Dan is the Scrabble king apparently. This was probably the 2nd time in my life playing scrabble and I got 186 while my husband-to-be rang it at waaaay over 300. He's a teacher of the english language FYI.
Good wholesome recreation? Kinda. We only have 2 rules: Trash talk as much as possible and no holding back ; )

Wednesday Adventures

Guess where we went today?

Dan likes whales. Big whales. This is his favorite part of the museum. Since he was in elementary school.

Lots of things to see!!

I heart dinosaur bones : )

We both heart dino bones!

Oooodles and oodles of dino bones! I think Connor would have had a heart attack if he'd come around the age of 6.

Dan has a big mouth, but not quite that big : )

Good times at the American Museum of Natural History.

Oh, it is love

This weekend was Valentine's Day. Now last year Dan and I had a bad experience with V-day.
1. Dan was sick. As he usually is from about October through his birthday in April.
2. 4/4 of us roommates had dates. This leads to a problem of scheduling the apartment.
3. Dan's car got booted. Provo parking enforcement sucks.
4. It was snowing... a lot.
5. Dan was sick (this was the worst part)
Needless to say, I was a bit hesitant about Valentine's day this year. Dan had a good cold working up during the earlier part of the week so that was looking promising. But V-day went off without too many problems. We woke up late, made breakfast, did errands (including picking up his wedding ring!! : ), we went to lunch at the nice Italian place we went to when we got engaged, he took me to the expensive mall (so I can't buy anything, isn't he clever? grr), and we went to see "He's just not that into you." Overall it turned out fairly well I'd say. Good times with Dan the man!
Sunday was our sweet Julie Mack's day of birth!! We had a grand ole time. I made Rachel brownies, and some other gals brought different desserts and it was a nice little par-tay with people from Julie's ward and whatnot. Dan and I got her a rolling pin, and some cute bowls and mugs from Anthropologie (my new favorite store for kitchen supplies). We love our sweet Julie Mack and are extremely pleased that she was borned, because all babies want to get borned. (watch Juno).

Today was president's day. Dan and I hung out. It wasn't too exciting which was good. Dan mostly wanted to read his book so we did that for most of the morning and then we went to the Harlem Jazz Museum. It isn't so much like a museum as it is like a room dedicated to Jazz cd's and books : ) It was fun, and Dan loved it because he is a Jazz fiend. Then he made me walk for forever and I realized how incredibly out of shape I am. It was a bit embarrassing. Anyways... just a lot of relaxing which is all anyone wants to do on a random day off right?

A little bit of this, a little bit of that...

So this week, Julie got me and two other girls some tickets to the Martha Stewart show. Basically it was awesome to go on a TV set and see it all happen. The most awesome part: listening to artists such as Lady Gaga or Usher or Madonna during the commercial breaks in order to get the audience "hyped up." The problem with this logic is that the audience other than Julie and myself and the other two gals is well over 40. And it's Martha Stewart. Who knew she was so hip!

Here's Martha herself and our hilarious MC man. I think he loved our little group because we were dancin and getting into the music (because it was awesome, loved that DJ!)

Today was reeeeeeeally nice weather. It was in the mid 50's. Which is heavenly after the 20's we enjoy here. So Dan and I went to take a walk along the beach. Too bad everyone else had the same idea so it was super crowded. And too bad it was suuuuuper windy to mess up the whole amazingly warm thing. I didn't have enough outerwear to deal with the winds sweeping across the water so we went and walked around a rich neighborhood close by instead.

Big pimpin with our sunglasses. Mine make all of the green stoplights look blue. It's crazy!

My new dream house. I can just imagine sitting outside on the porch rockers, sipping lemonade watching the kids run around. Sigh. I wish!

I love going on walks with my beau : )
Overall it was a pretty nice week/weekend. I got to do some fun things and I got to take some nice pictures. If anyone is dying to watch the Martha Stewart episode I'm in, it's showing tomorrow, Monday February 9th. And I will definitely be in it, I'm dead center, wearing a bright pink sweater. I look smashing : )

Hope you all have a good week!

The Good Ole Days

So tonight I'm watching Send Me No Flowers and I know it' so anti-feminist and whatnot, but sometimes I just love the idea of staying at home, taking care of the house, being a stay at home mom, making dinner (even though I stink at cooking), baking fresh bread, sewing clothes etc. Just old school : ) I'm sure I would get plenty tired of it at some point, but I do hope that I can stay at home with our kids when they're young. We'll see what happens! Doris Day movies always make me wish for the classic days and the fashion! Sigh. Basically it's wonderful and modest which is oh so nice. Anyways, just a thought!

Sleep Walking

So this is what I imagine sleeping with Dan will be like once we're married. When we stay the night at his parents house, I leave him nice and neat in his bed and when I see him in the morning, the covers are everywhere and the pillows! Goodness he sleeps with I think 6 maybe 7. I don't know how there will be room for me!

Such a darling I have to look forward to : )

Katz's Deli

On Saturday Dan declared that we were going to Katz's Deli. It is featured in the movie "When Harry Met Sally." The scene is rather entertaining, but somewhat awkward to describe so I'll just let you think about it (look it up if you really want to know, I'm sure Wikipedia will tell you). We had to take my overnight bag with us which Dan gallantly carried even though my new one is "girlie." He's such a dear.
Here's Dan getting ready to munch on the biggest sandwich ever. Their classic: The Reuben on rye. Cost: $15.50. Ridiculous Rating: 6 because it was super expensive but it was the freshest Reuben Sandwich I have ever had which means it was really good because nothing make a Reuben grosser than canned sauerkraut which this was not!
Trying to fit the whole thing in my ity bity mouth. We each had half of the 2 sandwiches (we got them mixed up, it only seemed fair.) Dan's had pastrami (or salami, I don't remember) and mine was supposed to be corned beef (only time I like it, I swear!). However, we got them mixed up. The only problem was that when I went to bite into my corned beef deliciousness, I could only fit half of the sandwich in at a time! It was HUGE! We went big this weekend...
Shot of the whole Deli...
The outside.

Anyways, it was a really fun weekend. Tonight we went to a Superbowl party at our friends the Barney's. They're fun. And I got to make Marissa's Salsa (I'm not actually friends with Marissa, but I have friends who are and this is what they call this salsa. It's really really good.) So we had a very fun and exciting and adventuresome weekend. THANK GOODNESS! I was starting to go crazy! : )

Fantasticks and Serendipity

Since Julie and I went and saw Wicked on Wednesday instead of The Fantasticks, we went on Friday night. It was a really fun play. It's the longest running off-broadway musical and it is very different especially after witnessing the majesty of Wicked. A much smaller more intimate theater and a very cute musical.
Afterwards we went to Serendipity (like the little hot chocolate place they go to in the movie Serendipity). They have a very very expensive Sundae...
And a GINORMOUS menu!
I ordered the Serendip. I thought it was described as a hot chocolate with a dash of nutmeg. Doesn't that sound nice? Then it arrived and I tried two spoonfuls and had my very first taste of coffee, a double espresso to be exact. It was quite strong and disgusting and made me feel jittery for about 2 hours. So I sent it back...
And got their famous frozen hot chocolate. It was scrumptious. If you ever go there on a date or whatnot, just share the blooming drink. It's huge and I highly doubt you will be able to finish it all and not feel ridiculously full. I promise. But it is delightful!
