Birthday Boy

While we were in California, we got to celebrate Dan's and my Dad's birthday. Dad requested something chocolatey so of course I made the chocolate cupcakes from pioneer woman. Dan requested the chocolate and peanut butter cookies I'd made a few weeks ago. So we had oodles of yumminess to eat.

The best present Dan-o got was a waterfall created by the very talented Carly Parish.
It was fun to spend time with the family, eat sweets, and celebrate two birthdays!

Reason number 17485927374 why I love dan

I came home from work the day after we got back from Cali and he'd unpacked my bag and laid everything out on the bed so I could put it away more easily. He rocks my socks.

Jam thumb print cookies

For our wedding my grandad and Marci gave us a better homes and garden newlywed cook book. I hadn't looked at it in a little while and while trying to not make another variation of chocolate chip cookies I found these. Very simple ingredients that you'll probably have on hand.
Once you've chilled the dough and then made little balls, you dunk them in eggs whites and coat them in finely chopped walnuts. Or not, I made some without the walnuts and they're good too.
Put them on you're sheet and then stick your thumb in them! Kinda fulfills all those childhood desires of sticking your fingers into things you shouldn't.

Let them cool completely and then drop a little bit of jam in your thumb print. I had blackberry and peach.

Yummy!

Conference weekend

This weekend was the LDS General Conference. Here are my favorite things about it:

Cuddling up with my pup and my hombre whilst (why don't we use that word more? Cause it's awesome) listening to the talks.
Going out for sushi and girl time during the priesthood session. A trip to MAC was made and new cute pink lipstick was secured.
Making crock pot steal cut oats. I hate oatmeal but love overnight crock pot steal cut oats. Nice an easy but something different than a typical Sunday breakfast.
ummm no pic cause we were enjoying it and ate too fast...

Making jam thumb print cookies. I was getting a bit tired of chocolate chip variations so these were made! They're yummy. More info later

Walking around our little neighborhood under surprisingly blue skies in between conference sessions. Should have taken pics but we were enjoying ourselves too much!

And listening/watching conference of course! Lots of talks about faith and welfare. Makes me a little nervous about what may be coming to try my faith, but you can develop your faith even without something horrible happening, so maybe I can go that route. I've also been thinking a lot about helping others more. I'm not sure how I'll do this since I feel like my schedule is pretty full already but we shall see...

It was a good weekend, how was yours?

Ma puppy

Someday when I have a human baby, this little pup will be in for a rude awakening...

Cause he likes nothing better than to curl up with his "mama"

But for now he's a very soft and sweet cuddler : )

Is winter over yet?

When you're bed looks like this every single Sunday morning...
I think it's time for winter to be over.

Date night

I think it's time for dan and I to start bringing back the awesome (said sarcastically) date night adventures we experienced in p-town. We want to spice things up a bit and hokey date nights are just the ticket!

Saturday night we decided to find our dinner at the grocery store for under $10. We had to get an appetizer, fruit/veggie, main course and dessert. Here's what we ended up with ...
Here are my thoughts
1. No wonder low income households eat not so healthy foods. The only reason we got the orange was because it was $1. Produce is dang expensive and ramen is dirt cheap.
2. That was a lot of sodium and carbs.
3. I was craving pringles in a major way. Let's not talk about whether that can lasted more than 24 hours...
4. Easter is still over a month away but this was the second time I've purchased the peanut butter cup eggs. If anyone a lifelong slave, just give me a steady supply of those and I'm yours!
5. Chobani's are good when there's stuff mixed in.... Which I think defeats the healthiness of them...

It was fun and I think we'll keep doing p-town style dates to spice things up a bit : )
