Job Fair

Today I went to a job fair at Columbia. It was interesting but not really productive for several reasons.
1. I can't get hired until July 28th. Who wants to hire me now for a few weeks and then let me go for two months for the wedding extravaganza? I wouldn't want to hire me!

2. It was open to several social work schools in NYC, which means oodles of people trolling around trying to meet and greet. How in the world am I going to stand out to them?!

3. Whenever I went up to a table, they already had stacks of resume's. Mine will probably be the one that gets lost.

And it was a downer because I realized I have a whole stinkin lot of competition. But on the upside hopefully since I'll be jumping into the job market later than all of the normal graduates, there won't be as big of a competition and I can do what I want : ) And I got to learn a bit more about the agencies I was interested in.

It also made me want this...
I love J.Crew suits. They are ridiculously expensive (jacket=$238 and pants=$138, yikes!) but I think they look updated and young. Some of the gals at the fair were wearing old boring suits which did nothing for their figures and made them look much less fashionable than I have seen them at school. Who says a suit has to make you look stuffy?! And I think the real key to looking good in a suit ladies, is getting it tailored. Men have to do it, why shouldn't we? So if you got a new suit to go job hunting, go get it tailored now and quit looking frumpy!

Pearls of wisdom by Maddie : )

PS. sorry for spelling suit as suite. As dad would say "I are a college graduate."

Yankee Game

Dan was really excited that the walk is only 15 minutes away from our new apartment

the new huge stadium!

Julie was my buddy

Cookie was Dan's buddy

I was abandoned

tender times

7th inning... we were getting a bit bored

I tried to take a bored picture with Dan not paying  attention and then I got this!
In the end, we had fun : ) I think this is going to be a frequent summer activity!

Welcome to our home!

Last night before going out to celebrate Dan's birthday with the Yankee's, Dan and I signed out lease (well he signed it because I hadn't submitted anything, woops!). While the men were doing that in the kitchen (sorry no pics). I went around and took a bunch of pictures. We went at about 5 o'clock and there was soooo much natural light it made my giddy. (I put a filter on the pics so you could see some details better, but it was a lot lighter than they look). Of course our broker was a wierdo and didn't make us feel exceptionally good about signing but I think we did just fine. So there's our apartment! Dan can move in this weekend but we're way too busy so next weekend we will be having a blast! woot woot!

ps. pics from the Yankee game later : )

El Dan

Today is Dan's Birthday. He is the big 2-6. Tonight we're signing our lease (pictures of the apartment to come) and hopefully (weather permitting) we're off to a Yankee's game in their new glorious stadium (which we can see outside our future bedroom window). (that was a very long sentence full of parenthesis)

26 of my favorite things about Dan:

1. He's loyal
2. He's a helper
3. He knows how to pack a small car with lots of odd shaped objects
4. He's a good listener
5. He's a secret keeper
6. He's frugal (this balances out my tendency at times to spend without prudence...)
7. He's funny
8. He's confident, but let's me see his soft side
9. He doesn't like making a fuss, but doesn't mind me making a fuss, except when I get out of control and then he calms me down
10. He works ridiculously hard, but makes sure to leave time for fun
11. He doesn't give up
12. He speaks Korean randomly, and tricks me into saying things like "Dan is great"
13. He likes to play with kids
14. He is a fantastic kisser (it's a favorite thing of mine!)
15. He likes to read
16. He doesn't torture me too much with excessive sports
17. He knows how to set goals and work towards them
18. He's friendly
19. He takes his time making big decisions and then sticks by them (which counteracts my somewhat impulsive/indecisive decision making followed by excessive guilt/worry)
20. He tells me about our future
21. He makes plans with me
22. He knows me ridiculously well
23. He's really attractive
24. He can kick butt in Scrabble (my man's a smarty pants)
25. He is patient
26. He likes me an awful lot

Happy Birthday Boo!

my boo and life

Picture from last summer taken on a nice summer day. Can you tell I'm dreaming of warmth?

my boo is back : ) That makes me happy.

Saturday we went to a wedding. It was fun because we get to do that really soon, which will be awesome cause I heart boo.

Today is Daddio's birthday. Woo hoo for him! He's the best dad ever and I'm glad he's mine. Usually I get to see him in a week or two because he's always helped me move back and forth from BYU, but not this year. Now I have to wait 1 more month and then I get to see the whole fam bam!

Tuesday is Danny boy's birthday. We're going to a Yankee game with a couple of friends to celebrate. AND! we're signing our lease for our first official NYC apartment. Yowza! Not that we get to move in together until after July 11th, but we will soon have an apartment and it's just a few streets down from where I live now which means I will get to see my boo a little more often. and that just makes me plan ole HAPPY

So even though I have a crazy paper due on Tuesday (which I actually have mostly done, just need to do lots of editing) and I have two crazy papers due the next Tuesday and an in class final exam the following Tuesday, life is pretty bueno... at least until I start working on that paper again...

Don't judge a book by its cover...

The Mom sent me this link. Go there, be amazed and know that you will probably want to cry. I certainly needed a little inspiration!

Oh stress

Just a fun picture I took this weekend. It's kind of quintessential New York City in the spring to me.
So I can't sleep at night presently. This seems to happen frequently when I become stressed. Why am I stressed you ask? Well let me tell you.

1. My boo is out of town which means I didn't get my weekend ego boost and he's not here for me to call and freak out about my upcoming assignments. I complain to him a lot, he's really sweet and tells me to buck up and get it done.

2. Starting next Tuesday, I have at least one final due for the next three Tuesdays. Ugh.

3. My first final paper due next Tuesday, is the worst one, so at least I get it out of the way, but that means starting this last Sunday night I can't sleep for the whole week until my paper is turned in... but then I have a paper due the next week, so no sleeping that week... and then I have another final the next week, so no sleeping that week! Goodness!

So wish me luck. Some how I'll get it all done. Yuck!

Easter weekend+ Rachel

My old roomie Rachel came to visit me this weekend and assist with hosting a little hanky panky bridal shower for me. First item of business when she arrived was going to Alice's Teacup.
We had non-caffeinated tea and delish sandwiches and salads. I'd highly recommend it for anyone visiting the NYC.
You get to act all cute and dainty and the little girls get to wear fairy wings when they're there, so mama's bring your cute little girls!
We also celebrated Easter which was fun. As it's my favorite holiday, I like to spend it surrounded by people I love such as the sweet Julie Mack and my darling Rachel. We got to get dressed up in our Easter outfits and refused to wear nylons even though it was rather cold due to the ridiculous wind.

On another note, an amusing thing that happened.

Let me first set the stage: our neighborhood is dominantly Dominican and Puerto Rican which means Julie and I with our fair hair and skin stand out quite a bit.
Julie and I were walking up out of the subway coming home from church dressed in our finery. An old man literally stops in his tracks mutters something in spanish about how good looking we are and says "woooooooooooooow chulas (cuties)" We ignore it (which is proper procedure in NYC) and laugh a bit. A few steps down the street later, I realize I have a pebble in my red peep toes, so I stop and lean against a building to take off my shoe and get out the pebble. However, I did not walk far enough past the windows of the grocery store and ended up with my hand pressed to the window where the deli counter is located. I look up and a young man is oogling me, nodding and smiling broadly saying something that I can't hear. Julie doesn't notice at first but then realizes with a shock that he's completely up in my face! He's practically drooling on the window (okay maybe not, but he was very close to it : ) We walk away and have the biggest laugh that I've had in a while.

There is nothing like walking around in Washington Heights with naturally blond hair to give you an ego boost! That's for dang sure!

My hombre and me

So our photographer is Dan's old young men's president (a church thing) and he was really nice and put all of our pictures up on a website so if you would like to see more go here (click on here). Let us know what you think! : )

Engagement Photos What?

yeah we like to pretend we're j.crew models... too bad j.crew models don't stick their necks out and do weird things with their mouths like I do! But dan's hot right? yeah that's why I'm marrying him. end of story : )

Oh the weekend...

Saturday morning Julie passed her test, so we celebrated by eating italian ices which made our tongues an interesting color...

Then Dan and I went to a random store in Rye where we got some fun things out of the little vending machines. I got this gorgeous ring, don't you think? ; )

We also got a little Disney tattoo for Nichalou. We decided they should have matching tat's. Good times!

Then Sunday came with General Conference which was vonderbar. And the weather was amazing! So we went for a walk through Central Park between sessions and it was soooo nice.

and Julie and I took some beautiful pictures to add to our collection, someday we are going to take a photography class together.

and the grass was sooo green and the sky was soo blue!! : ) and we were happy.

Then it started pouring this morning. April showers bring May flowers, never understood that saying until I lived on the East Coast...

1st Sign of Spring!

Once upon a time there was a boy and girl who fell in love. They lived in cold dreary New York City, but one day the girl tried on red lipstick and spring appeared!

They wandered around Union Square. It rained and everything was beginning to look fresh and clean (for New York anyway...)

The boy took a picture of the poor flowers trying to blossom behind cages...

Then they decided to go down to Battery Park and watch the sunset over Lady Liberty. On the way the train decided to stop ... so they took silly pictures.

Then they walked...

And gazed out at the cloudy sea

And it made the girl miss home and the smell of the fog...

and Miss Liberty made a wonderful photographic subject

and they were happy together : )

and the girl picked up her cap and gown for graduation! and realized there were only 5 more weeks of classes which was somewhat frightening... (and when she tried on her gown she noticed there were ridiculously long sleeves, perfect for hiding snacks during graduation : )
