ummm yeah...

Image from here.
Well for anyone who's interested. My picture/story of how I got my job is going to be featured as part of a story on Good Morning America tomorrow morning at 7:40am. So if you're not doing anything at that time in the morning, check it out!

I hope I'm actually on...or else this is going to be embarassing...

I still heart polaroids...

I may or may not still harbor a wish to one day have my very own polaroid camera. Doesn't it just give these pics a little more oomf? I luuuurve it.

I really love (hee hee) this last one.

I'm working from home today. I think it's going to be absolutely splendid!

My street's cooler than your street...

Fall is really coming. Today it rained all day. One of those nice sprinkles where it doesn't fully warrant wearing galoshes but you wouldn't look dumb if you did. I wanted to get crackin' on getting this year's round of fall pictures so I climbed out on our fire escape and this is what I got. And they all look kinda similar, but I was playing with the different effects available in Picasa (it's the closest I have to photoshop right now!).

My toesies and Mr. Thomson's ginormous scrub bottoms which I steal as often as possible because A) they're super comfy because they're waaaay too big and B) Danny boy thinks I look cute in them. Comfy and cute? heck yes I'm gonna live in them!

Anyways I've been thinking lately as I walk to the subway in the morning that I really like my street. Sure there are siren's running at all hours of the day and night and sometimes they seem a bit excessive, and of course there's the random man peeing on the street, and the men who hit on you in Spanish and Ebonics, as well as baby mama's yelling at the baby daddy's. But really, there are so many families out and about on the street (which makes me feel safe), there's a real sense of community (even if I'm not really a part of it, what with my skin color and all), there's diversity, there's no pretentiousness (like you'll frequently find below 125th), and let's be honest, if I leave the apartment and am not called at once the entire day, I'm gonna wonder if my hair looks bad or if my outfit is horrible, those cat calls are bit of a pick me up! So in conclusion, I'll leave you where I started. My street's cooler than your street.

Changing of the seasons...

One problem I personally encounter with the changing of the seasons is this desire to get rid of... well not get rid of, but really just add more things to my already tight wardrobe. Here's a small... kinda, sampling of the desires of my heart... just in case anyone wanted to get me something... : )
Tights. Out here in the frigid east, I've learned that tights are essential when wearing a skirt in the chill. They are also adorable and can change up your look a lot without a ton of money.
gap.com
Um ruffles are everywhere right now. And I personally am loving them! I like how girly and feminine they make an outfit. (I had to put up a crisp white button-up, if you know me, you know how I adore a classic white shirt!)

I want these boots. If you have to ask why.... then we can't be friends.
jcrew.com
Oh the coats. How I love coats! I think it's because I grew up in lovely California and didn't actually own a real coat until I moved to Utah for school. I have quite a collection but I'm always looking to add more!
jcrew.com
Sigh... I'm loving this soft blush color.
jcrew.com
Long cardigan sweaters are the best for wrapping up against the fall chill
jcrew.com
more ruffles!
jcrew.com
Ruffles on a cardi? yes please! as you can see I may or may not adore J.Crew and usually want to buy out their entire catalog.
These little beauties are from darlybird. Super cute online store I found on Cjane. Darlybird has a little section in accessories called Recessionista. That's where I found these earrings and I think I may need them at only $8 a pair!
Vintage Barbara Earrings
Annie Silhouette Earrings

Anyways... thats kind of what's been going through my head lately. Just thought I'd share : )

Sunrise...

A couple weeks ago Dan and I got up for our early morning scripture reading where I have to get up an hour before I really get up because of the hubs (I know, we're sooooo righteous right now (please say it in a valley girl accent so you can fully understand my sarcasm, we've barely been married for 2 months! We're all optimistic and shiz right now people, don't hate!)).

Anyways. The real story is that our beloved NYC was having crazy humid/rain/no rain/cold/hot/overall nasty weather. However, along with the horribleness of having to plan for in-climate weather in the walking city of New York, you also get some amazing skies. We woke up (Mr. Thomson jumped out of bed while I laid there and moaned at the unfairness of it all) and Dan started telling me over and over to come look out the window (I think I told him to leave me alone in a not so kind way). He kindly took some pictures so his sleep addled wife could later admire the gorgeous sky. Eventually I did get up and breath in the beauty, but I forgot that you can't take that deep a breath in NYC without inhaling some noxious fumes and quickly began to hack up a lung.

It was a pretty sky though, don't you think?

More from last week

So I don't have many pictures from the wedding festivities in New Roc, so if anyone has some, please send them my way! This is one of the few pictures I have before people arrived. The women from Dan's ward did an amazing job with decorating! It was absolutely perfect!
Our second first dance...
tender times! It was a lot of fun, and I know my parents love just having to show up and do absolutely nothing. It was good times with the CT crew! and I got to wear my dress again which was nice : )
Wednesday Julie, Zaneta and I went to the Ingrid Michaelson concert. I was a bit ticked at fist because the show was advertised as beginning at 7pm, but when we finally got to the door the schedule said nothing would start until 8pm and Ingrid wouldn't come out until after 2 other acts at 9:45pm! Ridiculous! So we found ways to amuse ourselves...
We were extremely bored for the first while... but at least we got to sit!
Oh Ingrid! I heart you!
So even though it didn't start until late and we waited around forever, it was totally worth it because Ingrid rocks and she's even more amazing in concert. She's super funny and has a quick wit. I may or may not have a girl crush on her : )

This has been one crazy week...

So since my parents came last Thursday, this week has been absolutely nuts! I had Friday and Monday off of work which was really nice because I got to play all day with the parentals. Friday we wandered around 5th Avenue in the wind and rain and ate lunch at Alice's Teacup of course.
Mom and I apparently forgot to stick our pinkies out...
Then Friday night Dan and I took Mom and Dad to St. Nick's Pub, a jazz club right by us and it was amazing! We got there around 9:30 which had the opening act. Then around 10:30 the most amazing jazz began. The bass player was out of control! I've never seen fingers fly so fast. And one of the biggest men I have ever seen sang with the most perfectly velvet jazz voices I've heard in a long time.
St. Nick's Pub. It's going to be a regular activity with visitors we're thinking... It's a little hole in the wall and it's absolutely quintessential New York Jazz.
Then Saturday, while Dan took care of wedding reception things, M, D, and I went to Max Brenner's chocolate restaurant of yummy goodness. It's one of those places that yeah it's very much a "fun" "quirky" place to go, but instead of having the food fall flat and only the desserts be good, EVERYTHING is delectable! My sandwich and fries were out of this world delish. I would highly recommend it for the experience as well as the deliciousness of the food.
The happy parentals satiated with chocolate love.
Monday night we went to Juniors for dinner so we could get some classic New York Cheesecake. We discovered this treat. A combination of classic cheesecake and the most rich chocolate mousse. We were all head over heels. You should go get some right now.
Look at that happy face! And Dad can't even be bothered with the camera he's so into this cake. I'm telling you people, go to Juniors asap. Then we went and saw In The Heights which is a really great musical but our cast was full of understudies and the original writer of the musical is no longer the lead which takes away some of it's power. But it was still good.

So that was Friday through Monday. Tuesday I had a slight break. Wednesday was the amazing Ingrid Michaelson concert with Miss Julie and Miss Z. Thursday was Enrichment (yes I'm on the committee now, don't laugh too hard Lauren!) And Friday night we met up with one of Dan's friends and went to the Temple for a bit.

Basically it's been a very crazy busy week but full of good times. I'll post some of the few pictures I have from our reception out here and of the concert. Because both were the bomb dot com. End of story.

just a few things...

First off, these cool cats are in town for our wedding celebration continued. I'm pretty excited because 1. I heart my parents 2. I heart parties where I get to where my wedding dress again and 3. Mom and Dad here means I don't have to pay for anything! : ) woot woot!

Secondly. Are there any men out there reading this blog? If so I'd like to inform you that when sitting on a crowded subway and especially the ones with the annoying little seat things that are not big enough for everyone, you should really consider not spreading your legs and putting your knee halfway into my seat. Your cahones are NOT that big. You do NOT need that much room. Just because I sit like a lady doesn't mean I wouldn't like a little space too. So please be polite and kick yourself down a notch in the whose bigger contest.

Thirdly. I have a quandary (is that really how you spell it? That's what google told me to do anyway). As I placed my foot on the first stair on my climb to Mount Zion (our 5th floor walk up) I noticed something interesting. And by interesting I mean disgusting. What was it you ask? That would be a used condom. Now my problem is this. Did they do it on the stairs? Right there on the first floor? Because that's quite public and I don't see how that's possible. And if they did it on the stairs, how did they get comfy? Because our stairs are marble and I can't think of how they could ever be comfy. AND our stairs are rather disgusting. Think of all the people that walk up that first flight at least. That's a lot of shoes. And think of where shoes go in NYC. Not clean places that's where.

Anyways. I was just thinking... now I'm going to snuggle with Mr. Thomson. He has that sexy raspy voice from teaching all day. ; ) I like it a lot.

Sleeping Boy

So when I have to get up before Dan in the morning (which isn't happening any more thank goodness : ) This is what I see... uh yeah where is he you might ask?
oh there's his arm!

My man's a burrower. It's entertaining when I'm not in bed with him, but not so much when I'm in bed and wind up with absolutely no blankets or his elbow/knee/face all up in my bidniz!

But I still like him anyways. He does the laundry.

Keepin it Classy

Today was a great day. The weather was beautiful, I got my man to take me to a chick-flick (never mind that it wasn't that good), we went to Trader Joe's for grocery's and got oodles of yummy-ness, and ended the day with Korean food at our favorite restaurant. Well, almost ended our day...

As we climbed aboard our bus Dan looked towards the back and lo and behold a 19 year old man and a 15 year old girl were going at it! Like really going at it. Like they were already on second base. His hand was cupping her left ta-ta. And the tongue. Oh the tongue! Hers was extremely long and apparently very agile. It only lasted a few short stops but I felt like I knew them so well by the end. We were all on intimate terms.

Twinners and playing with pictures...

Last weekend, Julie's parents were in town and took us along to a Yankee game and dinner. When Dan and I showed up at Julie's apartment we realized that we were twinners (we got those shorts together, $19 at Banana originally $70! Hot dang suckas!). We both had on white hoodies, Yankee hats, braids, and the same shorts. It was tender times with the NYC BFF's.
Then I was playing around with the applications in Picassa. They're pretty awesome if you don't have photoshop. I put the gradual black and white application on this one...
Sepia tone and film grain on this one...
And i think just film grain on this, maybe a little warmify action.

Anyways not really a big deal and I am once again being a crazy newlywed making everyone look at our ridiculous pictures.

Friday night Dan and I chillaxed, Saturday morning I went to see the Time Traveler's Wife with the girls (super bueno!), and Saturday evening we of course watched the amazing BYU game which we won and upset the #3 ranked team. We kicked trash basically (and it went really fast, which I was grateful for). Today we're relaxing and tomorrow we're going on a real life honest to goodness date for one last hurrah before we both dive into our jobs and go crazy. Possible pictures to come!

Just washin down the sidewalk...

This morning was beautiful. I left the apartment right at 8am, dropped some of our wedding thank you's in the mail box and briskly made my way to my subway station.

It was garbage day today which means that there were many disgusting smells to flavor my walk. The places that smell the worst are where the garbage truck has just picked up. This means that all the nast from the bags that broke or the ooze that dripped out is now baking on the sidewalk and being pecked at by dozens of disgusting pigeon's.

Frequently the abuelitas will be out hosing down the sidewalk in front of their building because they're sweet like that. As I began walking past a van parked on the street I "saw" a man hosing down the street, meaning I saw the top of a man over the van and heard the sound of running water.

However, as I walked past the gap between the cars I caught a quick eye full of not a rubber hose washing down the street but a more organic... natural version of washing down the street. I quickly looked away but not before I was able to take it all in, and I mean ALL.

Oh Harlem Heights, how you entertain me.

More apartment pictures

This weekend I ordered pictures to finally fill all of our empty frames in our apartment. I tried really hard to not be a crazy newlywed and only put up pictures of us and only wedding pictures... but unknowingly I did of course like any other newlywed. It's somewhat embarrassing so I apologize ahead of time.
Over the dresser in our bedroom... the Maddie and Dan shrine. and don't forget Jesus! (and our dresser is never that clean, I swiped it all off onto the bed for the picture).
And the front room. It's basically done I think.
Maybe a few more pictures or art things on the walls...
But it sure looks a lot better than when we first moved in! : )
