Results of No Spending September

This pic has nothing to do with anything...but Fitz is soooo cute!

No Spending September. It was good. I felt proud of myself and sadly rather impressed that I was able to go a whole month without buying any "me" stuff. It wasn't that hard. I just turned off the buy buy buy switch. I'd like to think that I've somewhat broken the cycle I'd gotten myself into of wanting to purchase any little thing my heart desired (which I'm glad about after this Conference weekend!). I had planned on buying some things to celebrate my successful completion but I didn't feel this overwhelming need to buy things like I did at times before. I did buy a few things today, but they are all things I've planned for and needed except the stationary... I just can't pass up nice stationary. It was a good reminder that I can actually get along just fine without new things. I highly recommend it, especially in September since October is the beginning of the holiday season (ish). It let's you step back and save a little moulah before it all comes crashing down! And it reminds you that stuff isn't all that important or necessary. It was a good, and I'm hoping to make this an annual thing.

Tarjay

This weekend, we went to one of the happiest places on earth (after Tiffany's of course). But you know what was ridiculous there? On the left side of the aisle, it's Christmas lights and decor, on the right side is all of the Halloween junk. Seriously?! It's October 1 and it's already time to buy for Christmas? There are still two major holidays before it even gets close to that! Crazy!

Pumpkin

I stocked up on canned pumpkin at Target as it's nowhere to be found in the stores by me. Now I'm all ready for fall baking. I'm thinking pumpkin chocolate chip bread, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin blondies, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin, pumpkin, pumpkin!!

Spinach rolls

For dinner on Sunday I made this recipe. It takes a little bit of time but I don't think any longer than a regular lasagna would take. Probably shorter.

So first you roll every thing up all nice and neat.
Then cover them in sauce and sprinkle some mozzarella on top.
Bake it and yum!
We had these with some salad. I think they'd be really good with a tomato and herb salad, but I didn't plan that far ahead.

Apple and Pear Crisp

The other weekend, I made this yummy dessert. I don't know if I would really recommend it unless you have 4 other pairs of hands peeling and slicing up all the apples and pears. It was mostly just annoying. However! The crisp topping was absolutely delicious and I think I'll use it with other fruit fillings.

So first you're gonna peel 5 billion apples and pears.
Then you're gonna slice 10 billion apples and pears
Next you're gonna put them in your dish and cover it with soon to be goodness. You'll pop it in the oven and...
Finally you're gonna pull it out and see the goodness...
Yeah it's awesome. You'll definitely want to eat this with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce if you have any.
mmmmmm mmmmmm!

Imagine Dragons

I know C.Jane post this on her blog a few weeks ago, but I'm now mildly obsessed with this band and this song in particular with the accompanying video. It is awesome. We've been listening to them through Spotify. Dan was told about Spotify by his younger (and oh so cool) sister. We're obsessed since we can listen to just about anything our little hearts desire for free. Only draw back is that you can only use it on the computer unless you pay for it. Let me know if you want an account and I think we can send you an invite!

Meatloaf cupcakes with Mashed Potato Frosting

I got this recipe from here. These are really yummy and relatively easy. I'd think kids would like them and find them entertaining. Cause really?! It's a cupcake? It's dinner? What?!

Here they are nicely baked and ready for their frosting.
I really love this mashed potato recipe too! Boiling the garlic with the potatoes? And then just mixing it all together? Easy!
Oh yum
We had them with a salad. Easy and quick dinner.
What do you like to make for Sunday dinner?
