Island Beach

View from the ferry...I love ferries : )
The Island
Don't worry I wore lots of sunblock!!!!

The Ferry
On Saturday Dan and I decided to go to the beach. I've been wanting to go swimming since I got here because you feel so gross all the time in the city (even if it's not hot and humid, NYC is just DIRTY!) So we borrow beach passes from Dan's sister (Greenwich public beaches are not really public, they are expensive but very well maintained because G-town is full of wealthy people). You have to take a ferry out to Island Beach (cause umm... it's an island) and ferries are always entertaining especially when you get to look at rich people's ridiculously expensive yachts.

The Beach
We get to the Island, it's not super big, but it's an island so there are beaches all around! wa-hoo! We eat lunch. I slather on the required 2 layers of sunscreen and we lay down. The weather was really nice so it took a while to get hot enough to get into the water but finally we go down there and guess what!!! East coast beaches have tons and tons of sea shells!!!!! There isn't really soft sand to walk on because there are so many broken bits of shells and whole shells that it really starts to hurt your feet after a while.

The Incident
Dan and I finally start venturing all the way out into the water and we're playing and having a grand ole time when the incident occurs. We're splashing and dunking when I see this somewhat large round-ish object hurtling across the water at me. I have just enough time to wonder "What the heck is that?" when I am smacked in the forehead by a rock!! Not just a small skipping stone. No no, no no. This was a rock the size of my fist and it hit me in the forehead not once, but twice due to the spin this child had managed on the humongous rock! I am in complete shock! Who thinks it's a good idea to throw rocks in the water where people are playing?! Is someone out to get me?! Have I already made enemies?! I am half way between crying from the shock and laughing from the ridiculousness of the situation as Dan drags me out of the water trying to reassure me and the 13 year old doofus boy that it was okay. Dan gives me the ice pack from the lunch box and cleans up while trying to keep me in the laughing mode instead of crying. Needless to say we went home right after that and I hope that a little boy learned the ills of throwing rocks near innocent bystanders.
