The Newness of York

This week's adventure was going to ...

They're actual Cloisters that nuns used to live in but it is now a museum.

Dan and I stopping to enjoy the scenery on the trek up the hill. I am extremely pink due to the fact it was a massive hill and it was waaay too hot outside. 

We didn't actually go into the cloisters. We got all the way there on the subway and then we walked for 15 min in the wrong direction. Then we found it but apparently they are at the top of a very tall, windy hill and it was very hot outside. By the time we got to the actual building it was about 4:30 and they close at 5. Admission is free for me (paying Columbia $40,000 in tuition has some benefits) but for Dan it would have been $11 for a half hour tour=not worth it. But I did get some pretty shots of the hill and greenness of New York. Maybe we'll try again sometime : )

I survived my first week of classes at Columbia. It was good, nothing too scary or intimidating. There was a Columbia hosted Happy Hour at a local bar at the end of the last day. Kinda weird school is sponsoring a bunch of alcoholic events, but it's the East Coast right? 

Friday I went to an end of the training party with Dan and met a girl who is actually an MSW. She gave me a nice little wake up call about my "creamy white girl" who will be regarding with suspicion and looked at as "how can she even relate to me". Sometimes I really hate my pretty blonde hair and my pale flawless skin. I just look sweet and innocent no matter what. I wonder if living in New York for a while will help me to at least look a little tougher. 

I got the latest Twilight book. Sigh, oh how I love reading. Friday I spent the night at Dan's parents house and then it was thunder and lightning on Saturday so we just laid around reading our books in our pj's for most of the morning. It was a nice break to get geared up for the upcoming week of chaos!
